  VII. \\#Esther 7:1-10\\ A Just Dessert

VII. \\#Esther 7:1-10\\ A Just Dessert
    A. \\#Esther 7:1-6\\ Haman’s Last Meal
        1. \\#1\\ "So the king and Haman came to the banquet" - Little is said
of the royal feast; however, it was no doubt a grand last meal for
            Haman.
        2. \\#2\\ "What is thy petition, queen Esther" - The king had shown
patience in seeking Esther’s desire, but it was time for Esther to
            tell him.
        3. \\#3-4\\ "Let my life be given me… and my people"
            a. Esther asked for her life first to emphasize to the king how
                Haman’s deed would affect him.
            b. \\#4\\ "For we are sold… to be destroyed" - Esther emphasized
that the attack against her and her people was not mere
                enslavement. It was death.
        4. \\#5\\ "Who is he… that durst presume in his heart to do so?" - At
this point, the king does not realize that he and Haman were Esther’s
            enemies.
        5. \\#6\\ "The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman."
            a. The king needed no more explanation. He understood that Haman’s
plot to kill "a certain people" had degreed the death of his
                own queen.
            b. As shocked as Haman must have been when he was told to escort
Mordecai through the city in royal attire, that shock probably
paled in comparison to what the king felt as he realized what
Haman had caused him to do. These are the very types of
situations that the king’s advisors are to keep a king out of,
                not place him into.
            c. "Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen" - Haman also
understood that his determination to exterminate the Jews had
caused him to become the king’s personal enemy. He well knew
that no advisor was safe who had committed such an act.
            d. After a fine meal comes a good dessert. Haman perceived that his
                dessert was on the way.

    B. \\#Esther 7:7-10\\ Haman’s Just Dessert
        1. \\#7\\ Both Ahasuerus and Haman needed a few minutes.
            a. "The king arising… went into the palace garden" - The king
needed a moment to think. The king knew he needed to so
something, but what" Rash action had gotten him into this
situation. Perhaps some thoughtful meditation would get him out.
            b. "Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther" - Haman
needed a few minutes to beg for his life.
        2. \\#8\\ "the king returned… and Haman was fallen upon the bed" =
Esther must have gone into her bedchamber, probably wishing to get
away from Haman for she had no desire to help him.
            a. Haman unwisely followed the queen and even more foolish, fell upon
the queen’s bed, probably in an act of contrition to beg for his
life. This was one occasion when proud Haman should have dirty
                his clothing on the floor!
            b. Yet again, God’s unseen hand worked for as Haman lay upon the
                queen’s bed, the king returned.
            c. "Will he force the queen also before me…?" Although it would
have been obvious that Haman was not making any advances upon the
queen, his violation of chivalry seals his fate.
            d. "As the word went out… they covered Haman’s face" - This
expression means that Haman understood what his fate was and that
                his expression showed it.
            e. What will happen to Haman was determined. The only question which
                remained was how.
        3. \\#9-10\\ "one of the chamberlains"
            a. It is interesting that Haman’s gallows had only been commissioned
the day before, but its existence was soon known throughout the
                court.
            b. "the gallows… which Haman had made for Mordecai" - God used the
king to complete His will. The instrument which Haman had built
for Mordecai will be used on him.
            c. \\#10\\ "So they hanged Haman" - Haman was executed but that did
not stop the law which demanded the execution of all Jews. Hence,
                the story is not over.
