            a. Chapters 36-37 - The defeat of Assyria

\\#1\\ Hezekiah was not the king when Israel feel to Assyria in 722 (Ahaz
was.). He did not begin to reign until 715. This account takes place in 701, 21
years after the fall of the northern kingdom. It has taken awhile for the
Assyrians to get to this place.

\\#2\\ Lachish is about 25 miles away. When the siege of Lachish was just about
over, Sennacherib sent his general and a portion of his army to begin a siege
against Jerusalem.

\\#8\\ "Now therefore give pledges" - Rabshakeh is offering to sell the horses
to Hezekiah if he has enough solders to mount them. This was Assyria’s way of
saying it made no difference to them whether Egypt tried to help or not.

Interestingly, Hezekiah had already made a treaty with Assyria
\\#2Kings 18:14-16\\ and so should be protected by Assyria even now.
