                 d. \\#Isa 59:16-21\\ But God Will Make Things Right
                 e. \\#Isa 60:1-22\\ A Glorious Future - The day being described is
the millennial and it is a continuation of the last chapter.
Isaiah describes the respect Israel will have from the
                      nations of the world.

I. \\#Isa 60:1-22\\ A Glorious Future
    A. \\#Isa 60:1-3\\ The Cure for Darkness
        1. \\#Isa 60:1\\ Israel’s Darkness
            a. "Arise, shine; for thy light is come" - \\#Isa 59:9-10\\ reported
that the Israel of Isaiah’s day was one of "obscurity…darkness"
and the people were "blind," groping "at noonday." This was
also the description given of Israel before Jesus came to Israel
                the first time \\#Isa 9:1-6\\.
            b. \\#Isa 59:1\\ explained that Israel’s darkness was caused by their
                sin.
            c. "the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee" - After God’s judgment
upon the earth \\#Isa 59:17-18\\, that will change. Israel’s sin
will be removed, and God will give to Israel His glory. With the
presence of God upon them, Israel will shine so brightly that all
of the world will take note that Israel had been with God.
                \\#Acts 4:13\\
        2. \\#Isa 60:2\\ The World’s Darkness
            a. "darkness shall cover the earth" - The remainder of the world has
always been a sinful place, earnings God’s wrath; but as the
last days approach \\#2Tim 3:1-5\\, the world will take an even
sharper turn into sin and darkness.
            b. "and gross darkness the people" - Those days will be dark and
sinful not just because of Satan’s increased influence and the
effect of the unique circumstances on that generation of people,
but because the people themselves turn to GROSS DARKNESS.
        3. \\#Isa 6:2-3\\ Israel’s Light
            a. \\#2\\ "but the Lord shall arise upon thee" - God will be the
                Source of Israel’s newfound change.
            b. \\#3\\ "And the Gentiles shall come to thy light" - With the
darkness removed from within Israel, Israel becomes a godly
influence upon the rest of the dark world. This prophecy hints
at the fact that Gentiles will be saved; first, through Jesus
Christ, as is taking place through the church today, but also
through the influence of Israel in the millennium.
    B. \\#Isa 60:4-14\\ The Reach of the Light
        1. \\#Isa 60:4\\ "Lift up thine eyes… and see" - Israel will see a
            glorious day in their future.
        2. What will Israel see?
            a. \\#Isa 60:4, 9\\ A Day of Regathering - "thy sons shall come from
far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side." See also
                \\#Isa 60:9\\.
            b. \\#Isa 60:4-9\\ A Day of Honor
                (1) \\#Isa 60:4\\ "all they gather themselves together" - This is
a reference to all the people of earth. Some are specifically
mentioned and others are generally cited.
                (2) \\#Isa 60:6\\ "Midian" - Son of Abraham by Keturah
\\#Ge 25:2\\. They settled south of Israel below the Dead
                      Sea.
                (3) "Ephah" - A son of Midian \\#Ge 25:4\\
                (4) "Sheba" - The homeland is uncertain, but they are mentioned
throughout the Old Testament and thought by some to also be
                     called the Sabeans.
                (5) \\#Isa 60:7\\ "Kedar" - A descendent of Ishmael
\\#Ge 25:13\\. Settled in the land south and east of Israel,
                     in Arabia.
                (6) "Nebaioth" - Another of Ishmael’s sons \\#Ge 25:13\\.
Another region in Arabia, near or of Kedar.
                (7) \\#Isa 16:5\\ "Tarshish" - Probably Spain
                (8) \\#Isa 60:13\\ "Lebanon" - The mountain range north of Israel.
                (9) \\#Isa 60:5\\ "all the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto
thee" - While some specific locations are mentioned, this
phrase states that all the armies of the Gentile nations
                     will recognize and honor Israel.
               (10) \\#Isa 60: 9\\ "Surely the isles shall wait for me" - The
terms ISLES and islands seem to often refer to the Gentile
                     continents \\See 2006Notes on "Isa 41:1"\\.
               (11) \\#Isa 60:8\\ The question is asked, "Who are these that
fly… to their window?" - The image is that nations are
flocking to Israel like "clouds" filling the skies.
            c. \\#Isa 60:5, 6, 9\\ A Day of Prosperity
                (1) \\#Isa 60:5\\ "the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto
                     thee"
                     (a) The word CONVERTED means to overturn, change, or turn. It
implies a great change has taken place.
                     (b) Israel, being a country with costal access, should always
have access to THE ABUNDANCE OF THE SEA. Without it,
                          Israel would have suffered tremendously.
                     (c) This is probably a reference to the dire conditions which
will exist in Israel during the tribulation. Israel will
be cut off and isolated from the remainder of the world.
                     (d) Yet, after God’s clothes Himself in battle array and deals
                          with Israel’s enemies \\#Isa 59:17-18\\, that condition
                          will change.
                (2) \\#Isa 60:6\\ "they shall bring gold and increase" - Not only
are natural sources of income now available to Israel, but
substantial gifts are also given, including "camels…
                     dromedaries"
                (3) \\#Isa 60:9\\ "the isles shall… bring… their silver and
gold with them, unto the name of the Lord" - These gifts are
not just to honor Israel, but they are to worship the Lord.
The place of worship during the millennium will be at the
                     temple in Jerusalem.
            d. \\#Isa 60:5. 11-12\\ A Day of Military Power
                (1) \\#Isa 60:5\\ "the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee"
                     The word FORCES means armies.
                (2) \\#Isa 60:11-12\\ These armies of the Gentile nations shall
come to "serve" Israel; that is, they shall put themselves
under the control of the Lord and His people, Israel.
                (3) \\#Isa 60:12\\ "For the nation… that will not serve thee,
shall perish" - Submission to Israel is not optional, but
mandatory and will probably be what determines whether a
nation is allowed to exist and enter the millennium or be
                     completely destroyed.
                (4) These verses insinuate that Israel will have a world army
                     during the millennium \\#Isa 9:4-5, 11:14, 19:17, 41:14-16\\
                     \\#Mal 4:2-3\\
            e. \\#Isa 60:7\\ A Day of Worship
                 (1) "they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar" - The
ALTAR within "the house of my glory" will be used during
these days. This is a millennial prophecy.
                 (2) "All the flocks of Kedar shall be gather… unto thee. the
rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee" - Some of the
surrounding nations will gladly help furnish the sacrifices
so that the large numbers of sacrifices can be offered.
                 (3) Animal sacrifices will be offered during the millennium
                     \\#Eze 43:19, 44:10-11, 27, 45:15, Isa 56:7\\.
            f. \\#Isa 60:10, 13\\ A Day of Rebuilding
                 (1) "the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls" - God will
use the labor of other nations to help rebuild Israel.
                 (2) "but in my favour have I had mercy on thee" - This will be
an act of mercy God shows to His people.
                 (3) \\#Isa 60:13\\ "Lebanon shall come… to beautify the place
of my sanctuary" - Lebanon was known in olden days for its
forest and beautiful wood. They shall supply "the fir
tree, the pine tree, and the box" tree, all of which are
evergreens, to beatify the worship area.
            g. \\#Isa 60:11\\ A Day of Peace
                 (1) "Therefore thy gates shall be open continually" - Jerusalem
has walls around it, but the gates "will not be shut day or
                      night."
                 (2) Israel will not need to shut their gates for there will be
no danger from without. The Lord God Almighty abides with
Israel; Israel’s enemies have been destroyed, and they have
a world army at their disposal.
            h. \\#Isa 60:14\\ A Day of Humbling
                 (1) "the sons of them that afflicted thee" - These are millennial
prophecies and this portion makes it clear that at least
some of the national enemies of Israel will go into the
                      millennium.
                 (2) "shall come bending unto thee" - These nation will have to
come and demonstrate reverence and submission to the nation
of Israel by bowing to them.
                 (3) "and they shall call thee, The city of the Lord" - Jerusalem
will be acknowledged to be the city of God’s chosen people.
                 (4) These may not be a practice just for the nations who once
hated Israel. It may be a common practice for all nations
                      to make this acknowledgement.
        C. \\#Isa 60:15-22\\ The Exaltation by the Lord
            a. \\#Isa 60:15\\ God will give the world a new appreciation of Israel.
                (1) "thou hast been forsaken and hated" - Israel has been hated
and forsaken from many years, but this has been especially
                     true during the millennial.
                (2) "I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy" - God will
change the way the world treats Israel.
            b. \\#Isa 60:16\\ God will give them the Gentiles.
                (1) "Thou shalt suck the milk of Gentiles"
                (2) The Gentiles are pictured as a wet nurse, a position of a
                     servant.
            c. "thou shalt know that I… am… thy Savior and Redeemer" - God
                will give them salvation.
            d. \\#Isa 60:17\\ "For brass I will give gold" - God will give them
                riches.
            e. \\#Isa 60:17-18\\ God will give them peace and security.
                (1) \\#17\\ "I will also make thy officers peace… exactors
righteousness" - Israel has suffered under cruel overseers
(officers) and task masters (exactors). In this age, they
will be ruled by peace and righteousness.
                (2) \\#18\\ "Violence shall no more… wasting nor destruction"
These oppressive traits have been all too familiar in the
                     land of Israel.
                (3) "thou shalt call the walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise"
Walls and gates are used for protection. Israel’s protection
will be their salvation and the praise they offer to God.
            f. \\#Isa 60:19-20\\ God will give them His glory for a light.
                (1) \\#19\\ "The sun shall be no more thy light… but the Lord
shall be unto thee an everlasting light" - This will be the
ultimate cure for the darkness that has plagued Israel for
                     so long \\#Isa 60:1\\.
                (2) This is likely after the millennium and into eternity for a
similar statement is made concerning the church during
                     eternity.

Revelation 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to
shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light
thereof.
                (3) The significance of this promise is so great, that God repeats
it, almost word for word, in \\#20\\.
            g. \\#Isa 60:21\\ "Thy people also shall be all righteous"
                (1) God will give them righteousness.
                (2) ALL - All of Israel shall be righteous. Every Jewish soul
that makes it through the tribulation will trust Jesus as
                     Messiah.
                (3) This means the words of Jesus to His disciples should be
                     taken literally.

Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that
endureth to the end shall be saved.

            h. God will give them the land.
                (1) "They shall inherit the land for ever" - What the world took
                      from Israel, God shall restore.
                (2) "the branch of my planting, the work of my hands" - Israel
is the seedling that God planted, the labor of His hands.
Such a statement separates that nation from all others.
            i. \\#Isa 60:22\\ God will them a great increase.
                (1) "A little one shall become a thousand… a strong nation"
                (2) God will increase the inhabitants of Israel.
            j. God has given them His word.
                (1) "I the Lord will hasten it in his time"
                (2) When the time comes, all of these promises shall happen
                     quickly.
                (3) This is God’s commitment to Israel.
