Israel - March 7, 2008
Good morning! First, we are fine. We did hear about the event in Jerusalem last night but we do not know anything that has not be shared on the
news. As I write, it is 8:38 PM in Green Pond and 4:38 AM in Israel. We probably won't hear anything until breakfast around 7 AM. Of course
the Lord is able to take care of us. We are not afraid, but we will not be foolish either. Now to more pleasant topics.
This is sunrise over the Sea of Galilee from our hotel window. What a view! Our hotel is on the edge of Tiberias. We are on the east side of the
Sea of Galilee and just a few miles from where Jesus made His home ministry. The plan was to visit the areas away from the Sea on our second
day. We started off heading down the Jordan River Valley, a beautiful lush valley in the Jewish early spring.
The first stop was Bet-Shan.
Throughout Israel, cities have been rebuilt over and over
again. Whenever a disaster destroyed a city, it was buried and
often rebuilt. Bet-Shan is being preserved in the time period of
the Greeks and Romans. The remaining artifacts are being
removed. From here, we go to Megiddo. This is the valley
where the battle of Armageddon will take place.
After lunch, we had more guests arriving late so we
changed our plans and went to pick them up. From there,
we toured around the Sea of Galilee.
We saw the site where Jesus is supposed to have
multiplied the fish and loaves.
We saw the place where Peter is supposed to have been
reclaimed after the resurrection.
We saw the place where Jesus is thought to have
preached the Sermon on the Mounts. In some of these
places, we took more video than pictures but those will
have to wait until we are back home.
Here are a few pictures of Tiberias.
The whole gang walked from the hotel back to Tiberias after supper. It was
probably a two-mile walk. Ronnie and Pat knew some places to visit during the
night hours--don't worry. We behaved!
